Why South Africa Fashion has My Heart

Thanksgiving in South Africa! Yes, that's how I spent my Thanksgiving last year, and it is now almost June and i'm having extreme withdrawals and flashbacks.
3 days after Felicia's Closet launch, I was on a flight to South Africa. This mini mission trip afforded me an opportunity to spend time serving the people in townships of this beautiful country. From presenting brightly colored sneakers and painting faces of giddy children to witnessing the progress of rehabilitated elderly stroke patients by local health workers, it was an experience of a lifetime.

In addition to the work I was commissioned to do, I could not ignore the beauty of the landscape of South Africa especially the cities of Cape Town and Johannesburg. And the food! Oh my! Thanksgiving day was spent sharing a meal with fellow mission workers at a seafood restaurant on Cape Town's Waterfront. As a fashion stylist, I paid strict attention to the people, styles, and hues that stimulated my senses! There were plenty of examples of animal prints, bold geometrical shapes, and tribal prints incorporated with bold, vibrant colors mixed with contrasting textures. Of course, there was South Africa Fashion Week held in Cape Town two weeks before I arrived! My attendance to this event in the future has already been added to my bucket list!

In the local shopping centers of Cape Town and Johannesburg, I noticed people young and not so young were dressed well and fashionably forward showcasing the pride of Africa! I am inspired the next time I step out on a quick run the grocery store...style up always!
